The Cowboy's game...

Bonnie and I went to the Cowboys v. Texans game Saturday night with some friends from work. We had a blast. The game was frought with penalties leading to the demise of the Houston Texans. If you ever want to know who is going to win a game, just ask me who I am rooting for, and the other team will win.

Here are some sights from the game.

The'Boys kick and extra point after scoring a touchdown.

Thanks Dennis and Toni for getting us the tickets, and driving us to the game. We had a blast. We'll have to do this again sometimes.

The Cowboys game continued...

Little did I know that Geo would be at the game too. Nice try Geo, the moustache didn't fool anybody. You all may not have known this, but since the day I met Geo, all he has talked about is being a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. I am sorry to say that I caught his attempt to fulfill his dream on film. My retinas are still burning.

Another great friend...

Hey gang,

You know, God has blessed me in so many ways since I came to Fort Worth. One of the biggest blessings I have received from the Lord is that of the friends he has given me since I got here.

I want to introduce to all of you a good friend of mine, Rob Merrill. Rob and I got to know each other my first couple of years here, and still keep in touch though we are miles apart. Rob is a great man, who has strengthened me when I was down, and for that I am grateful. Not only has Rob strengthend my weak knees, but also made me laugh uncontrolably. Uncle Big Rob, Thank you buddy.
(This is UBR on a recent vacation zip lining across a canyon. That UBR what a wild guy!)

There are so many things right with this picture...

You are all going to think I am crazy. Whatever... you all know that I am crazy. Where do I begin? First of all, how cute is this? Second, what other mascot would you do this with? A War tiggle, a gay-tor, a bayou bengal, a razorback?... I think not. But you know that UGA is a fine dawg, gentle and loving. A mascot who allows cute little girls to sit next to him and get their pictures made. What a dawg!

Also, I am going to confess something to you all. I am not much of a dreamer. I don't have grand plans for my life, as a matter of fact; I am just a simple guy. But I do have this one dream. In my dream, I have this picture of my little girl, age 1-2, in a frame on my desk. That picture is of my little girl, in a little red dress sitting next to UGA just like the picture above. And then in my dream, I look next to that picture of my baby daughter and there sits another picture of my little girl, all grown up and in college, in a red dress once again, sitting next to UGA. Oh what a happy Dad I would be!

My jealous mistress...

Hey gang, as you all too well know, school has started back with a vengeance. I am taking nine hours this semester, filled with two difficult classes, and one not so difficult class. Systematic Theology with Dr. Rupe McSwain will surely challenge and inspire me. This little beauty however will be consuming most of my time. This semester I am taking New Testament Greek with Dr. John Taylor. I am convinced that he is evil, though everyone else says he is a saint. It has been three years since I took my baby steps in Koine greek, and I am feeling the atrophy of un-use. So, if you are the praying type, and I know that most of you are; then rail the heavens for this ragamuffin. Please ask our Lord to be generous towards me with the gift of wisdom in how to translate Greek, or the grace to accept my F.

P.S. Did you see that Sarah & Terrell are moving to my hometown! I guess I'll see them around my hometown. (yeah, that's a line from the song I named this blog after!)

Big D's church...

Hey gang,
This is the church that Big D is shepherding, South Whitwell Baptist Church. It is a great little church. This flock is learning a lot about the Lord, and are beginning to taste the fire. When I visited, I saw a friendly church, full of all ages of people, young to old. There were several people who asked for prayer to be strong and wise to witness to people around them, and some asked for prayer to be a good witness in their job situations. I was pumped to see these people living out the lifestyle we all are supposed to live for Christ.

Best friends cont'd...

A couple of months back, I wrote about three of my best friends. (Nathan, Thomas, Geo) Well here is the next installment. I did not write about this fellow, because I did not have a picture of him to share. Gang, this is Big D! Darrell Winters is a great friend, and the funniest man I have ever met. He cracks me up. No matter where you are, no matter what you are doing, if Big D is there it will be fun.

Let me give you a classic Big D "ism," so that you will know what it is like hanging out with Big D. One night we were at Julie's fresh kitchen eating supper. Julie's gives you free cornbread and biscuits. Big D had a biscuit in each hand when he quieted the table and told us that he had an announcement. Big D took a bite of one of the biscuits, and then announced: "Guys I want you to know that I struggle with anorexia, but today I am winning!" The whole resturant was laughing, and I mean the whole resturant was laughing. People at other tables were belly laughing.

Not only is Big D funny, but he is as genuine as any man that ever lived. He genuinely loves everybody he meets, and loves the Lord with all his heart. He has a desire to teach others about the Lord, and lead them to obedient faithfulness. Big D is capable of doing so, because he himself is a faithful and obedient son.

I went to see Big D while I was at home. It was a great time. Big D kept me in stitches the whole time. Not only that, but I had the privilege of hearing Big D bring The Word. We had a great time renewing our friendship. Big D, if you are reading in, I want you to know that you are a great friend, and a man of God. We miss you here in Fort Worth buddy. It is not the same without you buddy.

My family...

You all know that I went home about a week ago. Well, most of you have never met or even seen my family, so I wanted you to get to meet them. So here they are. The dapper gentleman on the left is my father, Charles McKinney. The wonderful woman in the middle is my sweet mother, Frances. My beautiful sister Sherry is on the right, and my car climbing nephew Patrick is towering over the family. So there you have it, there is my family. We're not a big family, but we love each other, and look after each other.

By the way, who do you think I look the most like? Mom or Dad?

Check it out...

Hey gang, check this out. Carrie McDonnall's book is in the book stores. You will remember that Carrie is one of the missionaries who was attacked in Mosul, Irag last year. The book tells about her experiences serving the Lord in the Middle East, and her life with her deceased husband David. The book is great, full of stories about her and David, the fun and love they had for one another. Carrie also spends time explaining how they served the Lord together. Facing Terror is also heart wrenching in its description of the attack, and her recovery. I know that some of you have expressed interest in reading this book, so I wanted to let you know it is out and available for purchase.

My Hometown...

Hey gang! I'm back from GA. I had a great time, and have some stories to tell. Today, I want to show you some of the sights, so that you see a little bit of what my hometown is like.

Where do you think the first and largest gold strike was found in the U.S.? If you guessed Dahlonega,Georgia (25 miles from my hometown of Gainesville), you would be correct. Because of the huge influx of gold into the U.S. economy around the 1830's the U.S. government allowed a privately owned mint to strike coins in my hometown. There is no remnant of the mint left, but we do have this tasteful, and informative sign to remind us of it.

This is probably not politically correct, but neither am I. This is our monument to the men from Gainesville who fought in the Civil War. If you know anything about Civil War memorials, then you will know that this is the only Civil War memorial that shows a soldier "at the ready." Civil War buffs from all over the U.S. come to Gainesville to see it.

These are the Gainesville Midland train, and the little red caboose. They are not really all that special, but I like them so you get to see them.

My hometown is the Poultry Capitol of the World! This is the "Big Chicken," standing firm and tall honoring and reminding all of us from Gainesville of our proud poultry industry.

This is Pearce Auditorium at Brenau University. I spent many a day watching the plays Brenau produced in this building.

This is Byers Road, the road my Parents live on. When I see these views, I know that I am home.

Stay tuned boys and girls for more pics and stories from my hometown.

Headed back to my hometown...

Well, I'm headed back home for a little while. I'm looking forward to seeing my nephew, Mom, Dad, and my sister Sherry. I miss them all, and look forward to hanging out with them. I also hope to catch up on some of the sleep that I have missed over the last couple of months. Not to mention I will get to eat a little of my Mom's cooking. (She is the reason that I am pleasantly portly.)

This trip promises to be eventful. Not only will I get to hang out with my nephew, playing Batman and Spiderman, but also; I am going to visit with a couple of paroled Southwesterners. I am excited about visiting with Chris Winford, who is working at FBC Atlanta. Chris and I became fast friends when we went to England together in 2002. I am also extatic to be travelling to the thriving metropolis of Whitwell, TN to visit with and sit under the preaching of the funniest man that ever lived. That's right folks..... I'm going to see Big D! It promises to be an entertaining, and uplifting time.

So, this is me signing off for a week or so. When I get back, I hope to have pictures and stories to tell, so check back then. See y'all later.
